  • Guy Fieri As Renaissance Babies Will Give You All The Nightmares

Here are some paintings of Guy Fieri as Renaissance babies. They’re put together by BuzzFeed’s Ellie Sunakawa, who has clearly lost her damn mind. Thanks for sharing, Ellie! And by thanks for sharing, I mean expect my therapy bill in the mail! I don’t know what I expected from the internet, but it definitely wasn’t the Mayor of Flavortown making a surprise appearance in centuries-old-looking religious art. One minute you’re contemplating the beauty of the Renaissance. The next, you’re wondering whether the infant in the painting is about to recommend a plate of donkey sauce with a side of existential dread. A Little Less Cherub, a Lot More Flavortown There’s something profoundly wrong about combining the peaceful expressions and serious, reverent compositions associated with Renaissance paintings with the face of a guy who made his name celebrating diners, drive-ins, and dives. The original subjects are supposed to inspire wonder. This version inspires questions. So many questions. And not one of them is, “Where can I buy a print for the nursery?” Maybe it’s the contrast that makes these mashups so funny. You expect soft halos, tender maternal gazes, and the kind of golden light that belongs in a museum. Instead, you get Guy Fieri. The man has one of the most recognizable faces in food television, and apparently that’s all it takes to turn a serene painting into something that should come with a warning label. The best part is imagining how a museum tour guide would handle the situation. “To your left is a fine example of Renaissance devotion, and to your right is a baby who looks like he’s about to take us on a road trip to the nation’s best barbecue joints.” Please keep your hands inside the gallery at all times. These images were already making the rounds by July 2015, when BuzzFeed included the Guy Fieri Renaissance-baby gag in a roundup and credited Sunakawa. Which means people have had years to process this cultural achievement. Personally, I’m still working through the first five seconds. I’m not saying these belong in the Louvre. I’m saying that if somebody hung one in a dark hallway and let me discover it at 2 a.m., I’d never sleep again. Somewhere out there, an art-history professor is rubbing their temples, Guy Fieri is presumably still Guy Fieri, and the rest of us are left wondering how we got from the Renaissance to this. Anyway, enjoy your nightmares. I hear they’re taking reservations in Flavortown.

  • The Skeleton T-Rex Bike You’ve Always Dreamed Of Is Here Now

Check out this badass custom-built skeleton T-Rex bike! The rider can move the arms and jaws to make it look like a real dino. It measures 12 feet long and 8 1/2 feet tall, weighs in at 90 pounds, and was listed on Craigslist for just $2,000 back in 2015. That’s a small price to pay to be the only person scooting around town on a T-Rex bike! Totally worth it. The prehistoric ride even has a name: Sue. Built by bicycle fabricator Willie Hatfield, this three-wheeled beast features a nine-speed drivetrain, a movable head, and jaws that open and close using controls near the handlebars. So yeah, you can actually pedal around pretending to ride a dinosaur. How awesome is that? And Sue isn’t just some ordinary bicycle wearing a dinosaur costume. She’s a full-blown kinetic sculpture built from steel tubing, foam, and textured paint. The head moves from side to side like a marionette, while the tiny T-Rex arms are connected to the pedals. With a little coordination, the rider can make Sue wave, snap her jaws, and generally terrorize anyone unfortunate enough to be riding a regular, boring bicycle. Believe it or not, Sue was already attracting attention before that Craigslist listing appeared. Hatfield built the dinosaur for kinetic cycling events, and she appeared in Oregon’s da Vinci Days Graand Kinetic Challenge and the Eugene Celebration Parade. A 2013 feature from bicycle manufacturer Bike Friday reported that Hatfield had spent less than $200 on materials to build his enormous prehistoric creation. By the time Sue appeared for sale in July 2015, she had become a seriously elaborate piece of pedal-powered engineering. Her nine-speed drivetrain reportedly allowed a top speed of about 15 mph, although a more comfortable cruising speed was closer to 7 mph. The seat was approximately five feet off the ground, so climbing aboard wasn’t exactly as simple as hopping on your average Schwinn. Of course, Sue wasn’t exactly made for your everyday commute. Her creator described her as better suited for parades and special events. Which is fair. Imagine trying to squeeze an eight-foot-tall dinosaur skeleton into a regular bike parking spot. Good luck with that!
