Getting stuck at the airport is never fun, especially if you are on a long-distance trip via air. You may also have to endure lonely and long flight transits, i.e., the time you have to spend in an airport waiting for the next flight that will take you to the next or final destination.

Whether you’re in the best and worst airports in Europe or not, long stopovers can be very draining and can be converted into something fun and interesting.

No one can do anything much about transits. But you can do several fun things that will occupy your time and prevent you from getting bored.

Here are five interesting things you can do in an airport during a long stopover:

1. Occupy your time with a good book or two

If you’re an escapist, consider burying your head in a good book while awaiting your next flight. Reading quality books is one of the most productive things you can do.

You can read books by downloading them on your Kindle or getting hold of the good old hardcover copies. It is also one of the easiest ways of forgetting the hassle of waiting for hours for the next flight.

2. Listen to music or watch movies/videos

You can listen to some music while waiting for your next flight. Download the best travel songs from YouTube or connect to Spotify for some cool songs. You can also listen to podcasts from your mentors or favorite authors.

If music is not your thing, you can check out video streaming platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc., for some movies or documentaries. These will keep your mind refreshed for the next leg of your journey.

3. Take photographs

If you have to list boring activities at an airport, taking photographs will never make a list. You can take random pictures of individuals or people walking through the terminal, with or without luggage.

You can also take multiple selfies or even the food you order at any of the eatery you love (more about eateries in a bit). You can upload these photographs on your social media platform, informing your friends or well-wishers that you’re en route.

4. Grab a quick bite

You may not have noticed, but many airports worldwide have several eateries peppered everywhere. You will most likely come across Burger Kings, McDonald’s, Pizza hut, KFC, etc.

If the meals offered on the flight thus far have left you skeptical, consider visiting any of these eateries or explore the more local cuisine, unique to the airport, for a tasty meal. Highly recommend exploring the many options, even changing terminals could be worthwhile if you’re a foodie.

You can always ask the waiter or waitress about the ingredients of the food you want to order. This helps you make informed decisions when selecting the type of food to consume at your preferred eatery.

5. Surf the internet for free

Some airports offer their numerous travelers free internet. Since you’re on a long-distance trip, your cell phone network may be unavailable at these foreign airports.

However, use the airport’s free internet to connect to your favorite social media applications on your smartphone or tablet. You can also make calls using any of the popular messaging apps on your phone.

Browse your bookmarked websites, chat with a friend or two, or work and complete specific assignments. You will save time which you can use for other things when you get to your destination.

Conclusion

You should consider doing these fun things in an airport during long stopovers. Do all you can to stay and feel productive while keeping your positiveness alive on your way to your final destination.
