As pandemic-related restrictions begin to ease, most of us will start planning our next trip and begin traveling again. That also means that long flights and whiling away hours in layovers at different airports will once again become the norm. So, you’ll probably need plenty of ways to entertain yourself while traveling so as not to get cross-eyed with boredom before you’ve even arrived at your destination. Besides, the hours till you arrive at where you want to tend to pass at a sluggish pace, and the sooner they’re over, the better for everyone. Here are a few easy ways to keep yourself busy while traveling to help make your next flight or road trip a lot more pleasant.

Grab a Book

A good book – or even a stack of magazines – is your best companion for a long trip. Think about it: this is your chance to take a break from all the screens, and just enjoy your time without having to be distracted by anxiety-inducing breaking news notifications, a constant deluge of emails, or inane messages via social media platforms from people you’re not too excited to hear from. A book allows you to escape and keeps you entertained while giving your brain a break from the more upsetting things online that you don’t feel like dealing with while preparing for vacation. There is plenty of light, fun reads that are perfect to read while on a plane, some of which can be finished in a few hours. You’ll find yourself at your destination before you even know it.

Play Card Games

An oldie but a goodie is simply playing a bunch of card games. Especially if you’re traveling with other people, grabbing a deck of playing cards is a great way to pass the time. It’s also some good screen-free time that you may genuinely need when traveling. Board games are a bit difficult to carry on the go, so card games are a popular choice, and there are tons of games you can play with just one deck. Whether you’re traveling solo or with a group of friends, there’s bound to be a game or two you could play using a deck of cards. Couple that with a bunch of snacks, and you’ve found a great way to pass the time.

Do Some Arts and Crafts

If you already know how to knit or crochet, then there’s no reason for you to not take a small project with you while traveling. Keep it something simple like a hat or scarf, and you’ll soon find that you’ll be able to relax while keeping yourself busy with something you enjoy. If you don’t know how to work with thread and needle, try adult coloring books or something in a similar vein. There are many different printable coloring pages for adults available now so you can choose whatever you want and enjoy your time.

There’s a lot more you could do to pass the time and entertain yourself while traveling, but these definitely represent our favorite. Most everyone would appreciate some time away from their screens, especially after spending more than a year glued to their phones or computers as the pandemic completely altered our way of life. So, if you’re eager to travel and get some precious time away from any screen, then keep these simple ideas in mind.
