My First Bacon

Barbie, bike, and tooth are all words that commonly follow “My First” when it comes to children. Bacon? Not so much. But don’t tell that to the clever folks at ThinkGeek. This bacon plushie says “I’m Bacon!” when given a gentle and loving squeeze. And who wouldn’t want to embrace a stuffed piece of bacon, right?

Meet ThinkGeek’s Talking Bacon Plush Toy

The joke went beyond giving breakfast a face. My First Bacon had big eyes and a mechanical mouth that moved when it spoke. Red velveteen stood in for the meat, while soft white fleece supplied the streaks of fat. Finally, bacon you could hug without making a terrible mess of your shirt.

From April Fools’ Joke to Actual Bacon

According to ThinkGeek’s November 10, 2010 launch announcement, reproduced by Bacon Today, My First Bacon was one of the company’s April Fools’ ideas turned into a real product following fan requests. WIRED also included the talking plush in its 2010 holiday gift guide.

The launch announcement listed it at $19.99 and approximately 19 inches tall by 7 inches wide. That’s a historical price, of course. This particular breakfast belongs to the ThinkGeek archive, rather than a verified current shopping recommendation.

My First Bacon: Size, Batteries, and Age Recommendation

Despite the name, the original specifications recommended the toy for ages three and up. It required three AA batteries to power its breakfast announcement.

So yes, your first bacon could technically have been a stuffed toy with a moving mouth. Most breakfast foods don’t introduce themselves. This one apparently felt that was an oversight.
