Second Seeds Dominate In Buenos Aires After World Record Padel Crowd On Saturday

Alejandro Galán and Bea González kept up their brilliant run of form in 2026 to take home the Premier Padel P1 titles in Buenos Aires alongside home hero Fede Chingotto and Paula Josemaría Martín respectively as Saturday saw a world-record padel crowd of 16,920 at the iconic Mary Terán de Weiss Stadium. Here is all you need to know:

  • Galán and Chingotto took to the court on Sunday and promptly raced into a 4-0 final lead before Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia hit back for 4-2, only for “Chingalán” to take the first set 6-2. The second seeds then closed it out on their first match point 6-1 in the second set for a brilliant, quick win.
  • Galán, 30, said: “We’re playing at a very high level and being really consistent. We know how difficult this is, so we have to make the most of this good momentum – focus only on the present.”
  • The men’s event saw the second seeds coast through the bottom of the draw without dropping a set, a 6-1 7-6 quarter-final win over sixth seeds Jorge Nieto and Jon Sanz setting up a semi-final against fourth seeds Juan Lebrón and Leandro Augsburger who were simply no match in a 6-0 6-3 rout.
  • Up top, number one seeds Coello and Tapia banked a pair of 6-3 6-3 victories to open their campaign before they stepped up a gear to defeat 10th seeds Lucas Campagnolo and Jairo Bautista 6-2 6-2 then dug a bit deeper to see off third seeds Miguel Yanguas and Franco Stupaczuk 6-2 7-6 in the last four.
  • The final was the 34th edition of padel’s “Superclásico”, 33 of those in finals with titles at stake – Galán and Chingotto having won the last three and looking to dethrone the defending champions.
  • It was the form horses who came out on top again in just one hour and 17 minutes to bank their fifth 2026 title in dominant fashion and consolidate their number one spot in the FIP Race Ranking.
  • Chingotto, 29, added: “The key today was that we went out there to enjoy ourselves, and we played an incredible match from start to finish. On a personal level, I had never experienced anything like walking into this stadium packed with people shouting my name – honestly, it’s something unique.”

  • In the women’s event, González and Josemaría had to play their way into the week as seventh seeds Alejandra Salazar Bengoechea and Alejandra Alonso De Villa nicked a set off them in the quarter-finals before the second seeds reset themselves to triumph 7-5 2-6 6-2.
  • If they thought the semi-final was going to be an easier affair, they were in for a shock as they lost the first set 6-2 to third seeds Ariana Sánchez Fallada and Andrea Ustero Prieto only to fight back 7-5 then close out a thrilling match 6-4 as they chased a fifth title in a row.
  • Top seeds Gemma Triay Pons and Delfina Brea Senesi booked their final spot after they saved a match point en route to a marathon 3-6 7-6 6-4 victory over fourth seeds Claudia Fernández and Sofia Araújo – Brea looking to finally win a title on home soil after drawing on the support of the record crowd.
  • González and Josemaría came into Sunday’s final with 19 consecutive match wins, and they wasted no time in putting their opponents on the back foot to claim the first set 6-3, then kept their composure in the second set to take it 7-5 and make Premier Padel history with five titles on the spin.
  • After securing her 18th career title, 24-year-old González said: “Five tournaments in a row is crazy. Honestly, we still haven’t fully taken it in because winning one tournament is already so difficult, so I think we have to enjoy it – really appreciate it.”
  • Josemaría, 29, added: “I really enjoy it here – the warmth of the crowd, the way people live and feel the sport, I absolutely love it. I always come because my boyfriend is from here.”
  • The players now have a welcome break to recharge before the 2026 season resumes back in Europe with the Italy Major in Rome across May 31 to June 7.
  • The 2026 season is another exciting chapter for Premier Padel as the unified global tour expands under the governance of the FIP.
