Drinks and Scrabble is a recipe for a good time. Though I wouldn’t recommend getting tipsy and playing the modern day version of Scrabble – Word with Friends…that will just make you look stupid. This set of four Scrabble Drink Coasters features the familiar square letter pieces laid out to spell appropriate words dealing with wine, beer, coffee and rocks drinks like margaritas, including brew, cork, lime, hops and java. Each one is laid on project cork and sprayed with sealant so they are fully resistant to drips and spills from your daily drink of choice.

As a scrabble player, the first thing I notice is that these don’t make words in the vertical direction.

Yeah, Joel is right. Kind of takes away from it. It’s a shame; I do like the idea. Perhaps I’ll come up with something on my own…

I really like this idea. I ended up making something similar with some scrabble tiles left over from making scrabble hallway art (where you take all the names in your family and make them connect). So, because I was using leftover tiles, I didn’t have enough variety to have them make as many words as I would have liked – but did add a few verticals. This takes about 15 minutes so it might not really be worth spending $26 on it but then again if you don’t have the time (or desire to super glue your fingers together) then maybe it’s worth it!
If you’d like a step-by-step on how to make these, I’ve posted it here.

What if you wanted to make these coasters yourself as a “DIY” project? Where would you find all scrabble tiles to do this project? Buying a complete scrabble game wouldn’t be cost effective, since it would cost more than making this project. Any suggestions?
