The pound-for-pound list in boxing is a prestigious ranking that combines all the weight divisions in the sport. A host of factors such as the boxer’s record, number of world title victories and knock-out percentage are measured to compile the list.

Here is a look at three men who are at the top of the rankings in 2024 and are the best in their sport.

Oleksandr Usyk – WBA (Super), IBF and WBO world champion (3rd)

Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk was the undisputed cruiserweight champion between 2018 and 2019. He has since had success in the heavyweight division, winning the WBA (Super), IBF and WBO crowns.

Usyk is set to face Tyson Fury in the ring in May, where he is 11/10 in the betting on boxing [valid where legal] market for that bout. The winner of that fight will become the undisputed heavyweight champion. Success for the man nicknamed “The Cat” could see him jump to the top of the pound-for-pound standings.

The 37-year-old has an unbeaten record of 21-0, with impressive victories coming against Anthony Joshua, Murat Gassiev and Mairis Briedis. He looks set to finish his career as one of the best boxers of his generation.

Naoya Inoue – WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and WBO super-bantamweight world champion (2nd)

With world titles in four division weight divisions, no challenge has been too much for Naoya Inoue so far. The Monster has been an undisputed champion in the bantamweight and super-bantamweight divisions.

The Japanese star’s latest success came against Marlon Tapales back in December. He stopped a tough opponent in the 10th round in Tokyo to add the WBA (Super) and IBF super-bantamweight belts alongside his WBC and WBO versions.

So dominant has Inoue been in the lower weight divisions, that he is now running out of suitable opponents. His next challenge may come in the featherweight division where Rey Vargas, Luis Alberto Lopez and Rafael Espinoza are all world champions.

Terence Crawford – WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and WBO welterweight world champion (1st)

Undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford sits at the top of the pound-for-pound standings in boxing as his record sits above any active boxer in the sport today. He has a professional record of 40-0, with wins coming over big names such as Errol Spence Jr, Shawn Porter, Kell Brook and Amir Khan.

Crawford turned professional in 2008 and since then he has won world titles in three different weight divisions. He was involved in one of the biggest fights of 2023 when he defeated Spence Jr in the ninth round of their unified welterweight contest in Las Vegas.

The American could be set to take on former pound-for-pound number one Canelo Alvarez in 2024. Crawford would need to step up in weight to make the fight happen, as the Mexican currently competes in the super-middleweight division. Victory over Alvarez would help him cement his position as the best boxer in the sport.

All three men will be hoping to be involved in major fights in 2024 in what looks set to be a huge year for boxing.
