Lobster iPhone Case

This is an iPhone case brought to us by Elliot Gorham, aka Noddy Boffin. As you can see, it’s a Lobster iPhone Case. Why? Because Salvadore Dali said so; that’s why! Back in 1942, Dali, being his weird-ass surrealist self, is quoted as having said: “I do not understand why, when I ask for a grilled lobster in a restaurant, I am never served a cooked telephone.”

Oh, me too! I can’t tell you how often I’ve wondered the same thing. But if I had to guess, I’d say it’s anywhere between, like, zero and never times.

Gorham, a Melbourne-based designer, created the unusual case in 2012 as a one-off artwork inspired by DalĂ’s famous Lobster Telephone. The surrealist sculpture, originally created in 1936, combined two things that generally have no business being together: a lobster and a telephone.

Gorham simply brought the idea into the smartphone era. The result was a giant lobster attached to an iPhone, turning a perfectly ordinary piece of technology into something wonderfully impractical. It wasn’t designed as a mass-produced phone accessory, and there was no indication that you could just order one for your own pocket-sized crustacean collection.

I think Elliot did a fine job interpreting the concept, but I’m not really sure this is what DalĂ had in mind. Mainly because dude probably didn’t even know what an iPhone was. I bet he had one of those old-timey rotary phones with a curly cord! LOLOLOL.

Then again, considering DalĂ already imagined a lobster as a telephone, he probably would’ve appreciated this ridiculous thing.
