Pringles Candles Is A Thing That Exists Now Apparently

Pringles UK made Pringles candles. That’s right… candles that smell like potato crisps that come in a tube. Back in December 2015, the brand decided festive home fragrance needed a little less pine forest and a little more snack cupboard. Apparently, opening an actual tube wasn’t enough commitment.

Or you can be like me and choose NONE. Pringles are gross, man. Hey, it’s not my fault! If you got a problem with that, take it up with the guy with a mustache and bowtie. He seems to be supervising this whole operation.

Three Scents for Your Snack Cupboard

The lineup was Cheesy Cheese, Texas BBQ, and Pigs in Blankets. Those were candle scents, despite sounding like instructions for stocking a party table. Picture offering guests a seat while the room announces that somebody, somewhere, might be having a very unusual dinner.

The little tins leaned into the Pringles identity, with familiar branding doing the work normally assigned to a tasteful label about woodland walks. A candle promising cheese doesn’t need a complicated backstory. It needs a very understanding person on the receiving end of the gift.

A Limited Test in 2015

There was a catch behind the original headline. In its December 1, 2015 announcement, Kellogg’s said an initial run of 500 candles was being sent to testers. This was a small trial, rather than evidence that every supermarket candle aisle had suddenly surrendered to barbecue.

The company tied the idea to the Christmas party season. Its announcement also discussed a possible wider rollout the following year, depending on the response. That possibility was a plan under consideration, not a promise that these tins would become permanent residents beside the vanilla candles.

The Smell Was Part of the Joke

Kellogg’s described the trial candles as particularly pungent and said the odor might need reducing if the idea went further. Which is quite a sentence to encounter in an announcement about something designed to make your home smell. Subtlety clearly wasn’t driving the snack truck.

Still, the appeal is easy to understand as a novelty. The packaging looks like it belongs near the crisps, while the contents belong in the category of things you light. Your brain gets the joke before your nose has even been invited to participate in it.

Enjoy the Oddity Without a Shopping Promise

Treat these candles as a wonderfully strange moment from 2015. The original announcement establishes the trial and its three scents; it doesn’t establish present availability. A circulating photograph or Pin is a look at the idea, rather than a checkout button or proof of fresh stock.

If your preferred home fragrance remains anything other than potato crisps, that’s fine too. There is room in this world for people who want their living rooms to smell like cheese, and people who would rather keep the cheese firmly on a plate. Preferably somewhere downwind. The novelty works beautifully as a conversation starter, even if the conversation is mostly about opening a window before dessert arrives.
