New Meme: 60-Year-Old Girl
Redditor Beerdrummer posted a picture of Mrs. Beerdrummer taken when she was a kid. And, as you can see from the meme that followed, people thought she looked like a 60-year-old lady. If you didn’t notice the resemblance right off the bat, that’s okay. The internet certainly did. Before long, people were turning the childhood photo into a meme called the 60-Year-Old Girl. I would’ve called it Child Grandma or something, but that’s just me, and no one ever listens to what I say.
The whole thing started in December 2013, when Beerdrummer shared the old photo of his wife on Reddit. Other users quickly turned it into an image macro, making jokes that mixed childhood activities with the life of a much older woman. Basically, the internet had found a brand-new way to make fun of getting old. And somehow, it involved someone who hadn’t even grown up in the picture yet.
Thankfully, the woman behind the photo was reportedly amused by the whole situation. Beerdrummer later explained that he had asked for her permission before posting it, although neither of them expected the response to get so big. That’s probably an important lesson about sharing embarrassing childhood pictures online. One minute you’re laughing at an old school photo, and the next minute the entire internet is laughing along with you.
Regardless, I’ve gotta admit, I’m kinda in love with this meme. It might even beat out my personal favorite, Bad Luck Brian. Sorry, B! But c’mon, you should’ve expected that someday someone would come along and steal your place in my heart. You can’t very well be surprised. It’s kinda par for the course, if you really think about it. You’re cursed!
