Make Your Own MPee3 With A Guitar Urinal

The Guitar Pee is an interactive urinal that turns a bathroom break into a guitar solo. Finally, a musical instrument that requires absolutely no finger practice. The catch? Your performance depends on where you aim. Suddenly, making a splash has a whole new meaning.

Created for Billboard Brasil, the installation brought an electric guitar attitude to a very ordinary fixture. Our original reaction still feels appropriate: I’m not insane, urine sane! It is a terrible joke attached to an impressively ridiculous idea, which is honestly a pretty strong combination.

How the Guitar Urinal Made Music

A contemporary campaign announcement explains that advertising agency AlmapBBDO fitted the urinal with seven sensors. Each triggered a guitar riff produced specifically for the project by MugShot. Different targets and timing let visitors stitch those recorded sounds into their own performances. No actual guitar strings were being played by the stream.

That distinction makes the engineering a little easier to understand. Think of it as selecting musical samples through an extremely unconventional interface. The user supplies the timing, the equipment supplies the riffs, and everyone else supplies the uncomfortable silence when someone asks how the recording session went.

Your Very Own MPee3

The resulting recording came with the inevitable name: an MPee3. According to the campaign’s One Show entry, participants could listen to and download their fresh solos through a mobile gallery. Imagine explaining that particular file to somebody borrowing your phone. Actually, maybe keep the liner notes to yourself.

There is something wonderfully unnecessary about giving a fleeting bathroom performance a digital afterlife. Usually, the best possible outcome is leaving without incident. Here, you could leave with a track. Whether your friends needed to hear it is a separate question, and probably one best answered before pressing play.

A São Paulo Advertising Stunt

This was a promotional installation, rather than an ordinary bathroom product listing. The May 2012 announcement identified São Paulo’s Bar Aurora as an early stop and described plans for appearances at other bars. Billboard’s involvement gave the joke a purpose: demonstrate that music could come from unexpected places. An advertising stunt can be memorable without becoming a permanent attraction, and this one certainly understood how to make an entrance through the bathroom door.

Our original report credited Guitar Junky with bringing this particularly unusual musical instrument to our attention. The installation itself belongs to the 2012 campaign. Historic coverage should not be read as confirmation that a particular bar still has it, or that its download gallery remains available.

Encore? Only After Washing Your Hands

The original story wondered whether toilet sitters would ever get their own version. That remains a joke rather than a verified product announcement. Still, the premise holds up: take a routine moment, add a sensor, give the result a dreadful pun, and suddenly everybody wants to hear the demo.

I’ve got a song inside of me that’s just begging to get out. Know what I’m saying? I’m saying I gotta go to the ladies’ room. BAD.
