As a daily tool, our smartphone deserves the necessary care. We put it in our pocket, handbag or backpack. Is this safe? We often don’t realize how quickly scratches can shop up on the screen. Fortunately, a good screen protector has already helped a lot. But what is a good screen protector and how do you apply it in a few minutes? I looked it up for you!

What does a screen protector do?

It’s in the name. A screen protector protects the screen of your smartphone. There is a model for every copy. Their function? They usually protect against scratches. They are also an aid against fall or impact damage and contribute to your privacy. There are plastic, glass and privacy screen protectors on the market. They vary in price levels but remain cheaper than repairing your smartphone or replacing your display.

Why a glass screen protector?

My personal preference is for the glass screen protectors. They are sturdy and easy to apply. Cleaning is done with a quick wipe with a cleaning cloth. The plastic screen protectors require the necessary precision and more patience when attaching. Once installed, there is a chance that air bubbles will appear. Not so pretty to look at! They are, however, thinner than their glass brothers and therefore less visible.

I don’t think a privacy screen protector is necessary. They reduce the viewing angle of your screen so that no one can sneak a peek. Ideal if you want to keep certain things private! Unfortunately, this also translates into a more expensive price.

What are the advantages of a glass screen protector?

In the paragraph above, I listed some advantages of glass screen protectors for you. I would be happy to add to this. Did you know that a glass screen protector is composed of 3 layers…of glass? They are water thin and therefore not visible to the naked eye. The first layer consists of an oil-repellent coating so that fingerprints and other grease stains do not stand a chance.

If you accidentally drop your phone, it’s not a disaster. The glass screen protector breaks the drop and reduces the risk of cracks in the screen. In addition, you don’t have to worry about a reduced sensitivity of your screen. In terms of user experience, everything remains the same. In terms of view, you have a wide choice. Do you go for a transparent or mirrored glass screen protector or do you prefer a bit more color?

How to place a screen protector?

There are handy instructional videos that explain step by step how to apply a glass screen protector. For this you can go to sites such as YouTube or to informative websites to apply a screen protector . Websites where you can buy screen protectors offer  you a wide range of glass screen protectors: in all shapes and sizes.

It is important that you start with a clean slate to avoid finger marks. There should be no more dirt, grease or other dust on the screen. Before placing the glass screen protector on the screen, remove the adhesive side of the glass screen protector. After that… good aim is the message! Apply the screen protector slowly and in one go. No hesitation, but resolutely stick the protector to your screen and press gently. The protector adheres to the screen and forms a secure whole.

What does a screen protector cost?

Glass screen protectors are slightly more expensive for your wallet, but their effect pays off. You already have it for 10 dollars. Would you rather have real armor? Focus more on a price range of 20 dollars. Often this has to do with the hardness of the glass. The harder the glass, the smaller the chance that the protector will break into pieces.
