Are you really into crafting? More than ever, people are trying out different types of crafting with the intent to start a fun, relaxing hobby. Others consider it because they have kids in their home and they’d like them to get into it.

If you’re someone that loves crafting, then you know just how important that it is to have supplies on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It makes it easier for you to create when you want to do so, and you’ll always have what you need when an idea strikes you. Here’s a quick list of some of the things you may want to have on hand if you’re a crafter.

  1. Craft Blanks

Any sort of blank surface or blank paper is at the core of what you’ll need in order to be ready for any crafting project. This can be paper, ceramic items, towels, cloth, or whatever else you may think you’re going to use.

My favorite go-to store of great craft blanks such as thick, heavyweight flour sacks is Mary’s Kitchen Towels — which is a place I find incredibly useful for a lot of things. You can also find these sorts of blanks at local and online craft stores.

  1. Hot Glue Gun

Hot glue is the cement of the crafting world. This doesn’t only make it simple to keep things together, but it also works for pretty much any type of material that you may want to use, as well. Hot glue guns have a lot of versatility and make things a lot simpler for everyone involved in your crafting project, at the same time.

  1. Fabric Writing Utensils

If you’re someone that uses a lot of fabric in your crafting, you may need to write on that fabric for whatever reason. We’ll talk about standard writing and drawing utensils later on, but having items that write on fabric will make it easier for you to keep up with it.

  1. Sewing Supplies

Needles, thread, sewing machines, and other sewing supplies are essential. If you do some fancier stuff – like quilting – you may also need some additional specialized machinery in order to make things happen, which you can get at sites like JustCraftingAround. Either way, having sewing supplies on hand will make it easier on you.

  1. Ink Pad and Sponge(s) or Stamps

Stamping is really popular, especially for those who do papercraft. Ink pads and stamps (or sponges) can make that process so much easier for you in the long run. Have several different colors of ink on hand and make sure that you refresh them with new ink when necessary.

  1. Pencils, Crayons, Colored Pencils, Pens, etc.

Obviously, you’ll need things to write and color with if you’re into crafting. Whether it’s to label items, to make templates to follow, or to take notes on what you’re doing, it’s always a good idea to have plenty of writing utensils nearby in your craft space.

  1. Strings and Straws

Jewelry is another item that you’re going to want to think about when you’re putting together any sort of crafting space. What do you put your jewelry on? Strings and straws are the most common bases for all sorts of jewelry. Be sure to get different bases so that you can take care of things properly.

  1. Beads, Baubles, and Bits

You want to have beads, baubles, and whatever else you may want in order to

  1. 3D Modeling Options

Do you like adding 3D bits to your crafts? Maybe you like working with clay and other mediums in order to express yourself? Having clay and other 3D modeling options makes it really easy to do this when you want.

A word of warning, however: If you do keep 3D modeling options on hand, then you want to be sure that you check it from time to time. It’s common for those to dry out over time, so make sure that you refresh your stock if it’s been awhile since you used it in any context.

  1. X-Acto Knife

An X-Acto knife is one of the most essential items you’ll need while crafting. Whether you have it as part of a multi-tool (which can give you more flexibility) or you have several in different sizes, you’re sure to have a use for it. Cutting straight edges is an essential part of the crafting process!

Shop around and see what you need. Put together a shopping list and be aware of when certain supplies and such go on sale. You can maintain that list and make sure that you keep inventory of what is in your home. In the long run, you’ll always be ready to go when it’s time to start crafting.
