Because your little black dress just isn’t flashy enough… When this dress is under bright lighting it appears black, but dim the lights and the entire dress lights up to reveal film slides. It works using LEDs and a light sensor connected to an Arduino Lilypad. Designer Emily Steel created this unusual piece of apparel at Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Design as part of their Wearable Technology program. Steel says the dress was inspired by the “magic of film,” especially since light plays such an important role in film. It’s easy to imagine this type of thing becoming popular on the red carpet one day. “So who are you wearing tonight?” “Me, starring in my latest film!”
