With the cases of the Delta variant on the rise, there might be another lockdown. We have recently seen the Australian government has issued a stay-at-home order. At the same time, we are also bombarded with the news that their citizens are angry with the mandate.

Their anger is completely understandable because no one wants to be cooped up in their homes for days on end. A British college student has even confessed to the BBC that cabin fever is real.  But you can fight such an ailment. Let us tackle some ways on how to do it.

  1. Learn New Skills – Boredom is said to be one of the symptoms of cabin fever. Instead of immersing yourself in another video game, why don’t you try learning something new? This will help stave off your boredom.

If you wanted to learn a new language, then this is a good time to do so. This new skill might come in handy at work. How about teaching yourself how to crochet? You can even sell your output.

If you have a child, then you can sit with them as they go through their assignments. This is a good way for you to bond with your kid while taking a refresher course on history or math. Their lessons might not exactly be useful at work, but you can better understand your kid.

  1. Challenge Yourself – You can take things to a whole new level by challenging yourself. It is not enough to settle on learning skill sets that are compatible with your existing talents. You should try other things that will make you a better person.

You must find things that take you out of your comfort zone. If you do not consider yourself a tech-savvy person, you should try to build a desktop computer. If the first thing you do when dinner time comes is to scroll GrubHub, you should learn how to cook your favorite exotic cuisine.

Trying to learn the things that you are not naturally inclined is difficult, but it is not impossible. You can consider this as a mental obstacle course. Achieving this will feel incredibly good because you were able to move beyond the four corners of your brain.

  1. Get Yourself Moving – In an article published last year, it was mentioned that poor concentration is another effect of cabin fever. You can fight this off by exercising. You don’t only get to shed a few pounds, but exercising can also slow down brain degeneration.

Considering that Zumba is all the rage, why not throw a Zumba party? All you need to do is put on some music and dance your anxieties away. This is a fun way to boost oxygen flow to your brain.

Of course, we should not forget yoga. Again, let us take it a notch higher. Instead of being doing it in your room, why not grab your yoga mats outdoor? A 2017 study mentioned that exposure to Mother Nature could positively affect the brain, so get the best of both worlds and enjoy some outdoor yoga.

  1. Stay Connected – One of the good things about the pandemic is the evolution of human interaction. Although we don’t get to meet our loved ones, we can still talk to them online. Regular online talks can do wonders to a human’s psyche.

Instead of immersing yourself in nightly news that will only make you feel depressed, why not organize an online dinner with your loved ones? This is a good alternative to your face-to-face get-togethers, as you get to talk with your family or friends in a casual setting.

  1. Power of Positivity – It was mentioned earlier that minimizing our news consumption can be a good thing. It will also do many wonders if we start our day by thinking about the things that we ought to be grateful for. You can start by enumerating the things that you were able to accomplish.

Politicians from both sides of the aisle have warned the public of a return to the 2020 scenario. With the lockdown looming, it is easy to panic. But before you ring the alarm bells, you need to take a deep breath and think about the wonderful things that have happened in your life for the past year. Doing this will kick start your fight against cabin fever.

The lockdown was quite difficult, but you should keep on smiling. Things will eventually become better.
