Normally when there’s pasta or plastic army men all over the floor it’s time to hire a housekeeper, but the WE MAKE CARPETS art collective put that stuff there on purpose. The artists behind WE MAKE CARPETS, Bob Waardenburg, Marcia Nolte and Stijn Vandervleuten, don’t make carpets to be walked on, but to be admired for their astonishing originality. Using everyday materials—like bricks, pasta and plastic forks—the team puts together creative designs that from a distance, resemble a real woven carpet. Of course most of the designs end up in exhibits and art shows, rather than homes, since the “carpets” are generally made up of loose pieces. The Clean Carpet, pictured above, is made from cotton balls, swabs and cleaning pads.
