Mermaids are usually thought of as fantasy creatures (with red hair and purple shell bras) but what if they lived among us today? What would they be like? London-based photographer Hana Vojáčková created a photo series called Milk & Sea that features women from different European cities posing as mermaids. (The title is a play on a Czech term for a healthy girl being “blood and milk.”) Vojáčková sought out local women who felt a bit different to become mermaids in her photoseries and staged the photos to reflect their real lives. Too bad she didn’t visit ‘Merica. That would have made for a really touching photo of a mermaid with a muffin top sobbing in the parking lot of a Red Lobster. She knew she’d regret eating her friends but they tasted so damn good covered in butter sauce!
