Each year we replace our calendars with a fresh new version. Whether you like puppies, half-dressed women or comics, if this tradition is something you look forward to, then the Perpetual Calendar might not be for you. Designed by Gideon Dagan for the Museum of Modern Art, this one can be used year after year. A magnetic ball marks the day on a bar suspended in space. A second ball seems to float as the magnetic tension pulls the string toward the month printed on the outer ring. Simply pull the magnet to slowly change the date and month accordingly. The whole thing seems to be floating on air, which is exactly what your eco-friendly loved ones will be doing if you present them with one this holiday season.

    It’s a calendar, not a clock.
