The Internal Revenue Service (aka the second most hated government agency after the TSA) had to apologize recently for wasting taxpayer money on pointless training videos. The most expensive of the videos was a Star Trek parody that costed nearly $60,000 to produce. While it’s obviously pretty upsetting that so much money was wasted on the video, perhaps the most upsetting thing about this is the fact that the Star Trek universe economy isn’t anything like our current economy at all, making the whole premise is extremely flawed. The video features Starfleet officers who receive a distress call from the planet “Notax” and then goes on to mix a bunch of poorly constructed Star Trek references with tax terms that are almost as painful to listen to as the President’s “Jedi mind meld” debacle.
