Obviously pencils are an essential tool for creating art, but pencils AS art comes as a bit of a surprise. Yet artist Jennifer Maestre has drawn the conclusion that pencils make a great building material as well as a great drawing tool. She makes her point through imaginative abstract sculptures made entirely out of sawed off pencils. The look created by the pencil points resemble different textures to give the impression of fur or spikes, creating vague representations of organic creatures, animals and plants. Maestre leaves the pencils exposed using colored pencils to incorporate different colors rather than paint.
